The Union County Community Foundation became an
affiliate of the First Community Foundation of
Pennsylvania in 2005. Service clubs in the county
established the Union County Community Foundation in
1993, and volunteers from the community and local banks
handled the administrative tasks of the Foundation.
The Foundation held a reception in Lewisburg on
February 2, 2005 to celebrate the affiliation. Jeffrey
L. Mensch, J.D., Union County Community Foundation
Advisory Board Chairman at the time, said, "The Union County
Community Foundation's partnerships with the First
Community Foundation of Pennsylvania, with professional
advisors, with nonprofit organizations, and with donors
all work toward the goal of building something positive
and lasting for everyone in Union County. I believe that
all of us who live in and love Union County share the
same desire to make a lasting difference in our
communities. For those who want to leave a permanent and
effective legacy, we can help."
Mensch also commented, "There are so many advantages
to this affiliation, and they are advantages that will
benefit both donors and the community. To have
professional staff available to work with donors and
their advisors is vital, yet this is a considerable
expense for a community foundation. Affiliation will
give us the tools we need to grow, while holding our
administrative costs down. It will also keep more
resources available for use in Union County, so that
donors gifts can have an even greater impact."
Mensch added, "Growing our community foundation means
growing the impact we can make through grants in our
community. We envision our community foundation as one
that can provide significant grant funding to both new
initiatives and existing programs throughout the
county."
