Serving Donors and Enriching Communities
The First Community Foundation of Pennsylvania is a
regional community foundation that serves Central and
Northcentral Pennsylvania. We serve the region by
helping donors make a difference in the community and
making grants to nonprofit organizations in support of
their charitable work.
As a community foundation, we have unique
characteristics:
- Flexibility – as the community's needs change,
the Foundation has the flexibility to meet those
changing needs
- We are part of the community – because we are
part of the community, we understand community needs
- Many options for giving – our professional staff
has experience working with professional advisors
and donors to structure gifts that fit their
philanthropic goals
- Maximum tax-deductibility – gifts made to the
Foundation are deductible to the fullest extent
allowed by law
- Permanence – a community foundation is a
perpetual organization; because we are designed to
be around forever, your community legacy at the
Foundation will last in perpetuity
What is a Community Foundation?
Community foundations are non-profit organizations
that provide donors with flexible tools to create a
personal legacy in their communities. Community
foundations provide qualified agencies with grants to
assist them in their work.
The first community foundation began in 1914. The
concept of a perpetual organization that has the
flexibility to meet changing community needs has proved
so sensible and enduring that at the present time, the
community foundation sector is one of the
fastest-growing areas of philanthropy in the United
States.
